The percentage of women applying for MBA programs dropped slightly between 2010 and 2011 according to the 2011 QS Applicant Survey, the largest survey that looks into the mind-set and aspirations of MBA applicants. The survey data is based on the responses of 4,527 registrants for fall 2010 and spring 2011 QS World MBA Tour.

The percentage of women applying for MBA programs has dropped slightly -- from 48% in 2010 to 40% in 2012. These percentages correspond to the number of GMAT exams taken by male and female test takers, as reported by GMAC, the organization which adminsters the GMAT.

The number of female MBA applicants is higher than the actual female MBA population. According to the Forte Foundation, 31% of US MBA students are women.

Eastern Europe has the highest percentage of female MBA applicants, 57%, followed by the US and Latin America at 47% and 46% respectively. 43% of MBA applicants in Western Europe are female. The regions with the lowest percentages of female MBA applicants are Asia-Pacific at 36% and Africa & the Middle East at 25%.
